ICDP Rolls

Conventional and improved indefinite chilled cast iron rolls are produced by horizontal centrifugal casting. The working layer of the conventional type has a structure between white cast iron and gray cast iron: part of the carbon forms graphite and part forms carbides; as the distance from the roll barrel surface increases, the graphite content rises and the hardness changes accordingly.

Technical Features of Improved ICDP

  • Nb, V, W and other strong carbide-forming elements are added to the working layer, forming a large amount of fine, high-hardness, uniformly dispersed special carbides in a highly stable matrix.
  • In the improved ICDP working layer, graphite exists as fine spheroids, whereas in the conventional type it appears as flake or vermicular graphite.
  • From the roll barrel surface down to the scrap position, the improved ICDP shows little change in graphite morphology and a smaller hardness drop.
  • The matrix contains 1%–2% of fine, high-hardness, high-melting-point MC-type special carbides, uniformly dispersed.

Performance Advantages

Based on the above differences and characteristics, the improved ICDP delivers a 20%–50% increase in overall service performance compared with the conventional ICDP. To address water-ripple and roll-mark problems in high-precision strip products such as silicon steel rolled on hot wide-strip mills, we have successfully developed dedicated rolls that completely solve these issues.
