High-Cr Cast Steel Rolls

Conventional and improved high-chromium cast steel rolls are produced by horizontal centrifugal casting. The working layer material contains 10%~14% chromium and appropriate amounts of Mo, Ni and other alloying elements, offering good hardenability and hardening capacity.

Conventional Type Features

  • High thermal conductivity; less demanding on water-cooling conditions, allowing reduced cooling-water flow.
  • High and uniform matrix hardness, stable retained austenite content, excellent wear resistance and indentation resistance in the roll barrel working layer.
  • Improved roll surface friction coefficient and good bite performance.
  • After heat treatment, the working layer retains a certain level of compressive residual stress, improving thermal fatigue resistance.

Improved Type Enhancements

The improved high-chromium cast steel roll material is alloyed with strong carbide and nitride formers such as Nb, V, W, Ti and N, which refine matrix grain size and eutectic carbides, and increase strength, wear resistance and high-temperature red hardness through solid-solution strengthening and precipitation hardening. Compared with conventional high-chromium cast steel rolls, overall service performance and service life are improved by 15%~50%.

  • Roughing work rolls and finishing front-stand work rolls for hot wide-strip mills
  • Roughing stand work rolls for medium/heavy plate mills
